About Manuel Leandro
Manuel Leandro is a Cuban singer-songwriter, guitarist, and composer with over a decade of experience. His work moves between singer-songwriter music, trova, Latin folk, and rock rooted in Latin America, marked by a strong poetic sensibility and a constant exploration of themes such as love, identity, freedom, and the human condition.
His artistic career is also linked to literature and the promotion of Cuba's new song movement. In 2012 he published Quiero una canción: jóvenes trovadores cubanos, an anthology of new voices in Cuban song that he compiled for Ediciones La Luz, with a prologue by Víctor Casaus. He later published Del aire soy, a songbook gathering his own compositions, also under the Ediciones La Luz label.
Throughout his career he has shared stages with figures of Latin American song such as Cecilia Todd, Sandino Primera, Ricardo Flecha, and Augusto Blanca, among others.
In 2023 he released Mortal, his first studio album, published by BIS Music and produced together with Javier Pérez Rey. The album was among the nominees for the 2023 Cubadisco Awards in the New Trova category.
Now based in the Dominican Republic, Manuel Leandro is developing a new stage of his career marked by emigration and personal reconstruction. In 2026 he released Ritual de huida, a song inspired by his experience of emigrating from Cuba and his search for freedom, turning that experience into material for artistic creation and the starting point of a new chapter in his work.
3 Questions:
1. Your music has its own identity and emotional world. What experiences, influences, or moments have shaped the artist you're becoming, and how do you want listeners to feel when they discover your music?
I have a song that says: "Everything I saw brought me to this place." I think every experience I've lived through, both the good and the bad, has gone into building the person and the artist I am today. The music that at some point helped me get through my worst moments ended up becoming, in some way, part of my own songs. Everything I listened to, everything that moved me, and everything that made me feel something left a mark on the way I understand and make music. I'd like for anyone hearing my music for the first time to feel reflected in it. That's where the cycle completes itself, when a song finds new meaning in someone else's life.
2. When you're creating a new song, where does the process usually start for you: a feeling, a story, a melody, a sound, or something else? And how do you know when a song is really finished?
Everything starts from a need. It's not really a pleasant process. It feels like having a knot in your chest that you start untangling little by little on the guitar. Then there's a point where you feel there's nothing left to say, and the song is finished. That's when the satisfaction comes: from having managed to get that out of me and seeing how I was able to create something beautiful, seemingly out of nothing.
3. What kind of artist do you ultimately want to become, not just musically but culturally, and what do you hope people remember about your work?
I just hope my music comes to mean for other people what the work of the artists who shaped my life and career meant to me. I want my work to be remembered for its sincerity and for the search for beauty in pain, in darkness, and in rage, but also in light.

3 Preguntas:

About Von Pluma
Von Pluma is a rock band from southern Chile formed by brothers Zackary Konow (bass and vocals) and Oliver Konow (drums), together with Marcelo Meza Almonacid (guitar), Nicolás Ignacio González Cid (guitar), and Pablo Raimundo González Cid (keyboard).
With more than six years together as a band and over a decade of combined musical experience among its members, Von Pluma builds its sound from a broad rock tradition that bridges 1970s rock with '90s alternative rock and grunge, while also drawing in elements of Argentine rock and other influences that span the different generations within the band.
Their sound is defined by contrast: intensity and restraint, distortion and space, force and moments of intimacy. Their songs explore themes like identity, inner conflict, faith, and the search for meaning, aiming to keep an honest connection between the music and what inspires it.
In 2025 the band released Bloody Tree, their second LP, along with the EP Exploratoria. Recent milestones include shows alongside artists like Lucybell, Joe Vasconcellos, Chinoy, and We Are The Grand, as well as appearances at the Festival Osorno de la Leche y la Carne 2025 and the Festival Los Lagos 2025 at Teatro del Lago.
A turning point in their development was working with producer and musician Alain Johannes, an experience that opened up new perspectives for the band around songwriting, arrangements, and production.
3 Questions:
1. Five members, five minds — what does the process look like when a song starts to take shape?
Zack is our songwriter, but we really like working as a team on the structure and final result of each song. It's important to us that Von Pluma is a band, not a solo project backed by musicians. The idea is that everyone who's part of the project has a voice and can contribute to shaping the sound.
That's also why we believe Von Pluma's sound is constantly evolving. The band we are today wouldn't necessarily sound the same with different members tomorrow, and we see that as a good thing. Each person who joins should be able to leave something of themselves in the music, rather than just executing an arrangement that's already set in stone.
We also try to work from a place of respect and experimentation. If someone disagrees with an arrangement, the idea is to hear them out and try it. Even if we're not convinced at first, we'd rather play it, hear what happens, and discuss it from there. A lot of the time, the song itself ends up giving us the answer.
2. Working with Alain Johannes on production marked a before-and-after for you — what changed the most from that experience, as a band or as musicians?
Working with Alain was a huge learning experience, mainly because he showed us how production can deeply shape a song without stripping away its identity. We never felt like he was imposing his own vision — he folded himself into the process and knew how to listen to what the song needed.
It was especially great watching Alain and Zack work side by side on arrangements, and how decisions took shape through conversation and music. His way of working felt much more like being a member of the team than the distant figure of "the producer."
He also gave us the freedom to make choices we might not have allowed ourselves before, like working with or without a click track depending on what the song needed. He helped us understand that music has to be honest, and that not everything needs to be perfectly quantized to work. This is rock and roll, not a demonstration of sterile perfection.
We also learned a huge amount about vocal production, arrangements, and above all, when to step in and when to simply let the music speak.
3. If you had to stop playing grunge tomorrow and make one album in a completely different genre, which would you choose and why?
It would probably be different for each member. Some of us come more from prog or jazz fusion, others from indie, others from different branches of rock, and we'd probably all give completely different answers. So rather than pick a specific genre, we think what matters is what's behind the label.
Maybe "grunge" is just the easiest way to put a name on the convergence of all our influences. For us, genre is secondary to the music being honest and having something to say. If tomorrow we ended up making folk, prog, indie, or anything else, we'd probably still be looking for the same thing: for the song to have identity, to genuinely move us, and to not just be background music.
In the end, what interests us is making music that transcends genre. If a song is good, honest, and has something to communicate, it can find its own way.
